American persimmon is a native wild fruit that has been taken into domestication. It tends to produce very well with minimal maintenance and is quite delicious. Here is a photo of the "Szukis" variety, which is a self-pollinating and highly productive clone.

This is a variety found in the wild in Florida by Craig Hepworth: www.floridabamboo.com. It is also available from the Edible Plant Project in Gainesville, but you have to go there to get it. http://edibleplantproject.org/
This is very large fruit for an American persimmon.
